Code push done!

Journals may have blipped briefly (very very briefly), but everything should be okay now. As always, let us know if you run into any issues, no matter how big or small.

Is there an easy way to tell which ones are the newest themes?

They used to be in the featured category but it seems they no longer are. However, you can have a look at [community profile] changelog_digest where kareila compiles all changelog entries. http://changelog-digest.dreamwidth.org/75697.html lists all the entries regarding themes I think.

Would it help if I compiled a list for you on the Google Doc?

Yeah but you have to do so much scrolling; I thought it could be easier/faster for you if I made a separate list with just the new stuff.

It must be quite satisfying to drop some code into the website and see things change, like baking brownies on the internet.

Also, shiny!

What's really awesome is when you coded something that is in the code push. Then you get to look at it and say, hey! I MADE THIS THING. AND NOW THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CAN USE IT.

Could the code push have in any way affected beta testers using CSS3 on their journals? I posted about it here because *slaps head* - I didn't know there was a new code push! I can't bug Support again with this, I think it's in the JS (I clicked through to the contextual JS and there's some stuff in there that may - or may not! - be doing it, imo) but in a nutshell: "my usericon backgrounds explode now with beta testing turned on".

Very minor problem: something has broken the setting that lets you choose between tag counts displayed as hover text versus tag counts displayed as actual text in the Tags module. My Tags module, using a slightly modified Transmogrified, now has both. I suspect the issue is in print_cloud_tags which has been been modified to print out the number of uses in a for accessibility reasons, but I don't think that .invisible is properly defined in CSS.

[personal profile] kareila 2011-05-18 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you still seeing this issue? I just checked your journal and it appeared to have reverted to only using the hover text in your tags module. It's possible your browser might have cached an older version of the relevant stylesheet?

Sorry, I fixed it by adding .invisible {display: none} to my custom CSS. I can take it away again if it helps troubleshoot!

Hm. Is your style a custom style based on a system style? (ie, did you copy the system style and then completely override the CSS?) That might explain it ...
liv: Stylised sheep with blue, purple, pink horizontal stripes, and teacup brand, dreams of Dreamwidth (sheeeep)

[personal profile] liv 2011-05-19 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a system style, Transmogrified with all the system stylesheets in place. The only CSS I've added is things like tweaking the margins, colours and fonts, nothing that should override what was originally there.

OK, now fixed, [personal profile] fu pointed me to where in the CSS I should be looking, and it's working fine again.

Firefox 3 under Windows. Investigating now that you've added that information, I think it must have been just a blip; for some reason when I loaded the page before it didn't call lj_base.css, but now it is doing so and the tag counts are hidden as they should be.

I'm not sure if this is at all related to the maintenance, but I've been seeing some supreme slowness on the site this morning. It took me 4-5 tries to post an entry, and 2-3 attempts to load my Following page and this entry... several minutes per attempt. And half the time, I only pulled up a solid white page.

Any idea what may be happening?

(Attempt #2 at posting this comment -- solid white page first time.)

I don't see anything in the logs that would explain this on our end (I was asleep when you posted, heh) -- if it happens again, can you try running a traceroute to dreamwidth.org and paste that into a support request? That will let us see if it's your connection or a problem on our end.

I think my layout format changed a little. It's much narrower than it used to be. I mean the part where I put the typing stuff. It used to be about twice as wide.

[personal profile] ninetydegrees 2011-05-18 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think we've made any changes to Stepping Stones, which is the layout you're using. In fact I'm pretty sure nobody did. 1) Did you use to have two sidebar columns? Maybe you didn't and that's why it's narrower now. 2) Maybe a screencap would help if you can do that because your entries are pretty wide for me.
primwood: (Default)

[personal profile] primwood 2011-05-18 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Um two sidebar columns? Not sure. I see one very long sidebar and a tiny thing up at the top. I don't remember exactly what was there before, but I didn't change anything. It's half the size that it used to be, for me.

I don't know how to get a screencap into here. I copied it into Word, but I don't know how to get it in a format that I can put into this comment box. Sorry.

This is what your layout looks like in my resolution and font size: http://i.imgur.com/jmYSW.jpg

See the two sidebars? Have you always had them?
primwood: (Default)

[personal profile] primwood 2011-05-18 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I don't know if I've always had two sidebars. I do know I've had the one long one. And what you see as the text area is waaaay wider than what I see. In my view it's only about 1/3 as wide.

If you can't resolve this, maybe I'll go pick another style and get one that works. But I'll wait for you to tell me. :-)

[personal profile] ninetydegrees 2011-05-18 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Does the style take the whole width? I mean do you have the same margin on the left side and the right side?
primwood: (Default)

[personal profile] primwood 2011-05-18 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what's happened is you changed something so that the page looks ok on your particular monitor, but it isn't taking into account the resolution on your users' monitors. I tried changing my screen resolution a little, and it has helped (a little). It still isn't right though.

My monitor is more square and not a widescreen display like you may have. What I see actually cuts off the right side of my posts. Changing the resolution helped that a tiny bit. But I can't change the resolution enough to make it totally viewable.

The fact that everyone has a different type and size monitor makes it more complex for you to do it right, I would guess.

[personal profile] ninetydegrees 2011-05-18 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not 'you'. I didn't make any changes to Stepping Stones and would have tested them in different resolutions and screen sizes if I had. However, this may be related to another change. You didn't mention your entries getting cut off before. That's an entirely different thing.

At this point, I suggest you open a support request at http://www.dreamwidth.org/support because this would be the best way to figure this out.

Header for Reading Page

[personal profile] twinchaosblade 2011-05-21 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
I just realized that in my theme by branchandroot (Scarlet, Modish) the header for the reading page is considerably down in contrast to the headers of all other pages like the recent entries page or the tags or archives etc. It seems like there is another empty line between the Journal title and the header which makes the header appear too far down on the page. This is also the case in my secondary account (JuSeed), a modified Fluid Measure theme, also by branchandroot. I had a look at my journals on three different monitors but the problem remained.

I'm sorry to bother you with this but I wanted to bring this to your attention because the fluctuating header is quite irritating when you skip between pages in your journal. Thank you in advance for your help and your gorgeous work!

Thank you for your quick reply and sorry for taking so long to check back. On neither account is a reading page title or subtitle defined. The twinchaosblade account has no customization at all for the header titles, while in this account I do have defined a journal title but nothing else.

Re: Header for Reading Page

[personal profile] twinchaosblade 2011-05-25 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Did anyone else report such a problem in the display of the reading page title or subtitle? Maybe it is something in the coding of the two styles since there aren't any titles or subtitles defined for the reading page of either account? I admit to a bit of messing with the code in the custom CSS section in both accounts but it had nothing at all to do with the reading page title, just the position of the navigation strip.

Did you find anything to locate or narrow down the problem?

I haven't seen anybody else report the problem, no! I am so not the person to ask when it comes to customization or style or CSS stuff, but I'll poke [personal profile] fu to see if she has any ideas.
