journal search is down, may be down for a few days

The machine that powers the journal search feature appears to be having some technical difficulties, and the content database may need to be rebuilt from scratch again. The last time this happened, it took a few days, so be prepared to wait for a bit for that feature to be back up and running normally. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Update: as of August 8 12:00PM CDT, the rebuild is about 25% done.

The search database is rebuilding. This took a few days when we did it in 2021, I can only imagine it will take longer this time.

There are some results already! Indexing goes by account and in order of account creation, so right now, the search results are entirely from DW early adopters, heh.

It's at https://www.dreamwidth.org/search -- right now it will only catch content from people who created their accounts very early, though, heh.

I know that denise has been evaluating alternatives, but she hasn't found anything suitable yet.

Yeah, I've been looking, but there is just nothing that's as suitable, sigh. Everything either is heavyweight solutions geared towards full incident tracking/outage reporting or costs a huge amount of money or both.
