Varnish/503 errors
Well, the good news is that Dreamwidth is hopping this week! The bad news is that our recent changes to make the site auto-scale during periods of high server and database load have apparently been too conservative, and that's leading to the Varnish/503 errors that people are getting. (The mysterious ones that say "backend fetch failed, guru meditation error" -- the error message is highly unhelpful, but in our defense y'all aren't supposed to see it!)
We are continuing to tweak things to improve performance, and we apologize for the errors. We'll have them fixed as soon as we can.

As you just won one.

I debated saying something about wishing someone would fetch my back end if they truly wanted it, because I don't. Ahem.

Also just as a note: I've noticed that when I finally *do* get a post to go through, it then posts it two or three times. Even when I've been checking the base page to make sure it's not a situation of "it actually posted, but here's an error message anyway". Probably nothing useful, but thought I'd let you guys know anyway.
Thanks for the transparency, though!
And happy holidays, ofc. :)

Well, dang! I missed the "...guru meditation error" part when I got the error! ;D
Although lacking in detail, the message was helpful enough for me: it allowed me to infer it wasn't something I did, and that something on the other end had to change, so I waited and reloaded and everything was fine.
Anyway, this is comment is for my often felt but not expressed often enough appreciation for Dreamwidth being so transparent and responsive when things break. <3
