Search Offline (possibly for a few days)

Hi all,

Unfortunately, the hardware that powers our search system has been taken offline due to 'retirement.' This means that the search functions are disabled until we are able to resolve this, and it may take a couple of days.

I'll update more when I have a better timeline on restoring the service.

When search is back online, it may take some time to re-index all the content, but we won't "lose" anything from our search system since we don't use it as primary storage.

-Mark

Retirement it is when replacement first put to service. 'Retirement' when it take a couple of days and means that hardware was dead and we're looking for emergency replacement ASAP. Correct me if I was wrong?

Search needs rewriting or patching (I am not a dev, I just hang out with them) due to a giant security hole in Java, a lot of various web places are dealing with it right now.

Patching and retirement are different terms for not a dev person. Anyway. I don’t know how search impacted by this: https://portswigger.net/daily-swig/log4shell-vulnerability-poses-critical-threat-to-applications-using-ubiquitous-java-logging-package-apache-log4j

With respect, I do not believe that DW is affected by the Java exploit at all, it's just a confluence of timing.

Agreed.
