runpunkrun - re the yellow caution sign on firefox. That happens to me on all the pages I have images from photobucket appearing on. That could be a tiny icon, a background image, a mood theme, not just an image I've included in an entry. Basically the Dreamwidth content is all secure but the images I have hosted on photobucket are not (I note photobucket do not use https encryption). If I block images with my ImageBlock extension & refresh the page, the yellow caution sign disappears, which proves the hosted images are the culprit. As for the implications of this, this article may be helpful: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Protect-your-privacy/Mixed-content-blocking-in-Firefox/ta-p/10990

Still having this issue, as well. I'm getting a "You must choose a file to upload" error.

Yeah, I figured it was something like that. All the site pages are giving me secure green locks; I usually only notice it on my reading page. Thanks for the link!

Firefox does this. The red line/open lock means mixed secure/insecure content, and probably won't be preventable on DW where users can post content that originates from a non-secure connection (but in re-reading the comment after replying, I'm not sure that should happen on log-in though I do see it on Reading pages that have mixed content. So now I want to log out and log back in just to see if it happens for me there, too, since I can honestly say I've paid no attention before this).

ETA: Just logged out/logged back in from dreamwidth.org (using Firefox); green icons all the way. But I forgot you can log in/out from any page on DW with a navstrip which might explain a mixed content warning showing up after log-in (I use the navstrip so infrequently that I totally forgot we can do that.)

Does this work with the add-on of the same name?

[personal profile] marahmarie 2017-02-15 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully this is a good question: if I turn on https beta (which I would really like to do), will it conflict with using HTTPS Everywhere? If so, should I disable the add-on on DW? I've never disabled it on a per-site basis before, but can probably look up a how-to on it, if needed.

Yeah, my gut sense is that your home browser isn't properly recognizing the certificate, but I'm not a SSL expert :) Are you using the most recent version of the browser?

No conflicts, no.

Hmm, that's weird, since we should be proxying non-SSL images precisely so we don't get the mixed content warning. Lemme look into that a bit more...

We're working on trying to fix this! The thing we thought would fix it did not fix it. :) Sorry; hang tight and it will be fixed as soon as we can.

Sorry, we're working on fixing this! (Icon uploading is a code path that is very old and very complicated, and we keep finding more hidden problems...)

No need to apologise - it sounds very frustrating. It wasn't working when I wrote this comment several hours ago, but it does appear to be working now, as the icon I just uploaded is only 3.74KB & 100x100px! :)

Oh... Sorry to have uncovered an issue. :( I actually don't have anything from photobucket on this particular account, but I still get the yellow exclamation mark, which does go when I use an extension to block images. So it mustn't only be photobucket images. (Just to be sure about that I just right-clicked and viewed the "page source" on firefox for my entries page on this journal, and did a "find" search for photobucket, but there was no result).

EDIT - no phobucket but it appears the lock icon for my entries and and the userhead on my custom layout are from imgur - imgur have http:// only links.

Yeah, if you replace the CSS for your custom layout with HTTPS versions of the images, the mixed content warning will go away. (Mood themes, too, if you have a custom one.) I've opened an issue to see if there's any way we can proxy HTTP images in CSS and mood themes, but there might not be; if not, you'll have to find a place on the internet that will host them for you using HTTPS. (Or even put them on DW.)

Transferring all my layout images on my accounts to Dreamwidth is definitely on the to-do list, as Photobucket images can be painfully slow to load at times. I'm not sure I'll bother with the existing images in entries simply because there are so many, but from now I'll probably use Dreamwidth for those too. Is there any plan in future to enable albums in the image hosting area? That would be the icing on the cake. :) (Little steps I realise!! Just putting the thought out there).

Images in entries shouldn't be a problem! They go through the proxy already. :)

Yeah, tagging and albums and all that good organizing stuff are on the list of things to do in the future -- the trick is just figuring out how it should behave.

Oh cool - that's good to know re images in entries. :) I have hundreds of entries with images on my main DW account (recently imported over from LJ). Planning to make that one a premium account.

And awesome re albums etc. I shall watch this space!!

Hi again! Is there any way to adjust the image uploader to allow sizes larger than icon-ish? I had uploaded a picture with a larger dimension than that, but it uploaded as 100x100-ish (it might've been 100x149 at the most).
denise: Image: Me, facing away from camera, on top of the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome (Default)

[staff profile] denise 2017-02-20 02:55 am (UTC)(link)

There's no size restriction on image file uploads, so if you're having problems, doublecheck your image size to make sure you have the right version and then open a support request so someone can look into it (with a link to the image, uploaded somewhere else on the internet)?
