Nginx has been banished!

Hey all,

Sorry for the 'Welcome to nginx!' issues we've been seeing for a bit now. It was a server configuration issue that hit us when a webserver rebooted.

Basically when the machine rebooted, nginx (software that can act as a web server) started up and then when Apache (the software Dreamwidth code uses for a web server) tried to start, it failed because nginx had already started and registered on the ports (the way web server software gets your requests).

Again, sorry for the site issues. Everything should be back to happy-times now, so let us know if you see any issues!

Hello,

Thanks for the info!!

I was really afraid when yesterday I did as I usually do, open Firefox, write down DW in google and log in from there -I know, I'm lazy like that- and suddenly I got this Nginx.

If I tried to access directly to my blog, there was no problem, as well as if I accesed other webs through google. It was just DW.

I am not a computer expert but everytime I have a problem, I search on the web and try to find a solution. And what I found really did scare me and confused me. In many places they said this Nginx was a server but in others that it was a very potent malware, able to read your keyboard typing and altering you computer. I even discharged an antimalware app, passed it several times, run my antivirus but it kept appearing.

Today I found a page where they explain ways to eliminate all suspicious archives from all the search engines and apps and I was going to try it. But in searching about which server you use, just in case it could give me any clue, I just found this post. Can you please confirm it was just a configuration issue on your part??? I can not check right now if it doesn't show up anymore in my laptop,as I am not at home, so I would be very grateful if you could reassure me on this!!

Anyway, thank you for your post and for keeping us updated. I love DW for many things but the main one is how you worry to keep us updated and maintaining a really nice place and how dedicated you always are. Keep up the good work, and thank you!! And a very happy 2017 to you all!!

Maria

again and again...I cannot open my page. instead of it I see :

Welcome to nginx!

If you see this page, the nginx web server is successfully installed and working. Further configuration is required.

For online documentation and support please refer to nginx.org.
Commercial support is available at nginx.com.

Thank you for using nginx.

Thanks, Mark! Does Dreamwidth have the capability of having Twitter tweets posted into a person's journal? I would like to use DW as my permanent home, but the last time I checked, it didn't have that capacity. If DW doesn't now, are there any plans for it to happen in the near future?

I cannot access the site via 2.4ghz wifi, it's just loading infinitely or stalling on white screen. 5ghz wifi on my phone is operable but still laggy. Saw on twitter site performance should be improved but it's suuuuuper the opposite for me.

Hello. I know this is an old entry, but as of late, I'm getting the "Welcome to nginx" message a lot on my end, especially soon after accidentally deleting some layouts over at the Advanced Customization page. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

Also still getting the message when I try to go to https://i-phoenix.dreamwidth.org/

If I go to the main site, I can still get to my reading page.
