status update

The problem we were having earlier today with failed crossposts was due to a merge conflict in one of the code modules that the crosspost worker uses. I thought the merge conflict was fixed before the changed module was pushed live, but apparently it was not. Alas! Woe! But [personal profile] alierak fixed it a few hours after we were informed of the problem, and crossposts should now be back to normal.

A short while ago, a few of you started reporting a new issue with loading Dreamwidth pages via https. This was not related to the code push, but rather an update to the SSL certificates that we use, which were going to expire soon. One of the intermediate certificates was not in the correct format, and that problem is also now fixed.

If there is anything ELSE not working, do let us know, either by commenting here or opening a support request. Thanks everyone!

The instructions for linking to a LJ account given at http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=87 don't work for me.
In my entry of 6 april (under the cut) is an example of it not working.

What editor are you using to compose your entry? It looks like the angle brackets around the username in that one case have been escaped, so that they display as literal <> characters instead of being interpreted as HTML.

I just use my ordinary keypad, entering directly online.

I several minutes ago used the same method in DW to make a link to an article, and the angle brackets worked okay there. Here is the entry I just made, with the successful link: https://3sentencefic.dreamwidth.org/493.html?thread=109293#cmt109293

By which editor, do you know whether you're using the regular Create Entries page, or the beta Create Entries page?

Do you recall whether the Disable Auto-Formatting checkbox was checked or not? (That setting is sometimes implicated in cases of weird angle bracket shenanigans.)

Thank you for taking the time to work on this!
I don't know the answer to either of those. I suppose I was using the regular Create Entries page; I have never turned on any beta testing. I don't recall about Disable auto-formatting, but I'll make a new entry now, for test purposes, and see what it looks like, before and after posting.

Hooray!! When I made sure the HTML flag was up (Disable auto-formatting was never on) the system worked,as visible in two test-posts I just made.
Thank you again for your time and patience on this.

(and I'm feeling like a dill that I didn't have the HTML flagged in the first place.)

Please don't feel too bad about it! I can't think of a single member of the support team who hasn't been caught by those settings at one point or another, despite it being high on the list of things to check first. :)

You have to do it this way: [user name="username" site="livejournal.com"] (only with angle brackets).

Thank you. I've tried that now (and had tried it previously; this is not a new problem for me). It still doesn't work, as visible in the current edited entry.

The other instances of that problem that I am aware of cleared up after we resolved the issue with the crossposter, since that caused a queue of delayed jobs to pile up. If you're still having trouble today, probably best to open a support request so that you can give us more details to help us investigate where the problem might be. Thanks!

I sent in a reply 25 minutes ago, and it hasn't appeared yet -- waiting to see when it shows up -- so it does look like there's something slowing shit down.

Actually, belay that "open a support request" -- I replied to you by email when you first commented and the comment still hasn't shown up 25 minutes later, so the queue probably is stuck somehow. I've passed it on!

We had an issue today with comments posted by email not being delivered correctly. Looks like they may be starting to come through now.

Accessing via HTTPS still brings up DNS errors for me occasionally. Never on www.dreamwidth.org, but as soon as I go to someone.dreamwidth.org, it's a few refreshes, with some minutes between each.

Yeah, we've been moving some services around, which causes problems related to propagating DNS changes. I'm told that refreshing the page while holding down the shift key is a thing to try that might help.
