Planned load balancer failover shortly

Hi all,

As part of our new hardware project, I'm going to be failing us over to our new load balancers. This will involve a brief downtime for the site while everything fails over, but it should be less than 60 seconds.

Can't sign in to other sites using my DW site as a provider

I use my DW site as an OpenID to log into other sites, and I'm getting this error on 2 different sites:

Verification of the OpenID URL failed. Error message: "Server denied check_authentication"

OpenID authentication failed: Server denied check_authentication.

This just started today, and may be related to this change.

Related to some change very recently, yes! I think there's a problem with our upgraded version of the OpenID modules, and/or we're using them badly. I'll work on that next, sorry for the trouble!

This must be the same as my support ticket, #22868; slightly different symptoms, depending on how the other sites do their user interaction, I guess. Thanks for your hard work.

I assume the site looking weird (the main pages loading, but without the special skin applied, more or less) is a result of this? Everything's still functional, it's just -- all in a column, if that makes any sense.

It did until I refreshed just now! Guessing it was just the failover (which is a REALLY weird name for that).

As a supplement to what mark has mentioned, that web 1.0 look is generally when the css files with the site skin fail to load (which can happen for other reasons besides swapping out the load balancers).

When it was happening on NaNoWriMo.org a lot, the phrase "the website has no pants" entered the collective vocabulary of some of my NaNo-ing friends. Hilarity ensued.

Everything is working fine for me. Possibly you refreshed during the period we were failing over -- can you please do a hard refresh? (Hold down shift, click the reload button.)

Yeah, it's fine now -- I guess it was during the failover period! Just caught me by surprise, is all. :)

I noticed last night that the arrows to expand and collapse would only be there to expand them. After you clicked them open, the word 'Collapse' would replace the arrows at the top and bottom of the cut text.

Now the arrows are gone and all I have are Expand to open and Collapse to close.

For me, the expand/collapse arrows appear to be broken. I'm only seeing a part of a little transparent box. (Like the traditional "box with red X", but cut off so that there's just a sliver of it.)

I think it depends on the layout. Some seem to be doing what my layout's doing, some seem to be just showing the outline of the box. I'm glad it's not just me, but I hope there's a fix for it soon.

Haven't got that, I've got text saying 'Expand' (or 'Collapse' if the cut has been expanded.)

Yeah, the same for me - I thought it might just be the layout I was using, but it appears in any of the layouts I've changed to.

Newest versions of Chrome and Firefox. I get the boxes on Chrome and the collapse/expand on Firefox.

I've just noticed that instead of having the little 'expand cut' arrowheads, there's text to expand/collapse cuts. Is this new and normal, or new and wrong? Either way, it's bizarre-looking.

It wasn't normal; it was a problem related to this failover! It should be fixed now - if you don't see it, try holding down Shift while refreshing to force a reload of everything.

is this related to how slow and dodgy the site's been lately? i'm getting really long load times trying to post entries, somewhat long load times trying to post comments, and the odd 503 error. been going on for about two days now. (eta) also notifications have been wonky, especially tracked stuff for when communities update.

No, this was a while ago and we've been stable since then.

I did move some things around last night that might have affected notifications in the past 24 hours. I will investigate and see if anything seems to be amiss.
