Привет! LiveJournal imports may be slow

Привет and welcome to our new Russian friends from LiveJournal! We are happy to offer you a new home. We will not require identification for you to post or comment. We also do not cooperate with Russian government requests for any information about your account unless they go through a United States court first. (And it hasn't happened in 16 years!)

Importing your journal from ЖЖ may be slow. There are a lot of you, with many posts and comments, and we have to limit how fast we download your information from ЖЖ so they don't block us. Please be patient! We have been watching and fixing errors, and we will go back to doing that after the holiday is over.

I am very sorry that we can't translate the site into Russian or offer support in Russian. We are a much, much smaller company than LiveJournal is, and my high school Russian classes were a very long time ago :) But at least we aren't owned by Sberbank!

С Новым Годом, and welcome home!

Unofficial translation (неофициальный перевод):

my English lessons were a lifetime ago, although I regularly have to remember them a little bit. Thank you for your hospitality! I'm writing this with the help of a translator.

Google Translate is very good, actually.
For English-Russian pair I'd say it's 6-7/10 now, and to get above 8 you should be able to grasp cultural references, which means native speaker.

PS. Thanks for your work and dedication, Denise

All of your Russian-language responses on this post look good to me, so I think you're wrangling the software very effectively!

(More generally I’d say one of the big things for getting natural-sounding results is probably avoiding tenses other than past simple / present simple / future simple! Russian doesn’t have any other tenses, so ime Google Translate doesn’t always choose correctly when it comes to rendering English text that uses e.g. present perfect continuous.)

I don't really know.
English has reduced grammar, compared to Russian, German, Spanish, etc.
So if you can find something that works for German, chances are it will give better results for Russian.
Old luddit, like myself, would simply accept it, review the output and fix up pronouns and verb endings. It's easy for me to say, but on the other hand you still need to review the output before sending, no matter how hard it is.
You can try putting more things in passive voice, or in 3rd person (e.g. "one can" instead of "you can"), but not every phrase will look normal this way.

From technical point of view, I believe there's LLM somewhere behind Google Translate now. Which means it can be prompted to produce output "as formal as possible" (it should trigger "Вы" instead of "Ты"). But this is my guess, I have no idea whether it's possible to make it work.
