Code push imminent... UPDATE: code push done!

We are planning did do a code push tonight! The exact timing will depend on people's availability but it should be sometime between 9:30PM EST and 11:30PM EST. Most of the changes included in this code push can be found in the most recent code tour.

Here are the new updates you are most likely to notice and appreciate:

• fix for /customize applying intended community style changes to the logged-in user
• fix for /manage/circle/edit not saving some changes
• two new mood themes from Socchan
• modernized design for the /poll/create page
• modernized design for the /manage/profile page
• support for adding Steam usernames on user profiles

We don't anticipate any meaningful user impact, apart from a bit of slowness here and there as things restart, but we'll be sure to let you know here and on Bluesky if things go unexpectedly pear-shaped.

UPDATE: deploy is done, let us know how things are going? 😉

We want to add support for both Bluesky and Mastodon, but there are technical considerations with those that haven't been worked out yet!

For some reason, at least three of my RP accounts I was able to see their profile and update it, yet I couldn't see other people's profiles and got a "Sorry, there was a problem." message.

Though when I logged into this account, it's the exact opposite. I have to wonder if it's something to due with accounts marked as roleplaying one.

You're close! Turns out the reason we didn't catch it in testing is because the problem only triggered if you either (a) had no services saved, or (b) hadn't edited them since we migrated where the settings were stored in order to allow multiple accounts per service type.

The manage profile page does look a sight better! One tiny issue: my default profile picture slightly overlaps the border of the white box it's in. (And I note that the black arrows on the dropdowns are hard to see on Gradation. Could anything be done about that?)

I have a very stupid question, but I cannot locate any info on what, exactly, I put in for my other site info. After selecting the service, I tried putting in URLs, then just the name, but nothing seemed to work. When i saved and checked my profile, none of them linked or displayed correctly. I am certain it is both obvious and total user error, but help? (I'm trying to add Steam, Discord, and Ravelry, in particular.)

That problem is on Steam's end - my understanding is that you'll have to edit your profile URL there if you want the link to work.

Oh, sorry! I completely forgot that I'd left a note here, but it resolved the next day. I also had a friend have half of their icons go missing at around the same time but that, too, resolved.

You seem to have made polls incompatible with old browsers. Any attempt to answer a poll now does nothing but redirect back to a cleared input form.

Actually, scratch "old". Polls don't work on any version of Firefox or Safari I have access to.

Not sure if it is related, because I've only noticed it today -- several of my icon images are missing. I'm not sure how to go about capturing useful information, but when I clicked on one of the missing images (https://v.dreamwidth.org/501524/321769) I got "Error 503 Backend fetch failed".

I'm not very sure, but I think it's related to spam causing the site to have trouble accomodating to the volume. It may take a long time for the spam issue to blow over, but the scaling usually clears up fast enough.

I'm unsure if this is related, but since the code-push, Dreamwidth has been fairly laggy for me, especially when trying to load profiles, and ESPECIALLY icon pages. Even when an icon page seems to load all the way, half or more of the images themselves don't load in.

+1, also experiencing this. it's actually gotten worse over the past couple days, at least in my observation. as in it was mostly happening in evening/night hours for north american timezones but now it's happening all the time.

Yeah, this tracks for my experience of things deteriorating as well, down to "mostly happening at night in US timezones" to "all day all hours" now.

Polls for multi-admin accounts

I'm one of the admins for a community, fandom_checkin. We post a poll every day. At present, the posting is rotated among 3 of us, all of whom have admin privileges.

Before this code push, I'd put up the daily poll, then close the poll for the previous day--whether I put it up, or one of the other 2 did it. Since the push, I can only close a poll I put up myself--if one of the other admins put it up the "close poll" option doesn't appear.

It's not anything that we have any control over! Coming back after a few minutes and refreshing the page should reload the icons in most cases.

I would also like to add another report of "icons aren't loading across multiple accounts".

I saw it was mentioned earlier a few days ago but the issue has, unfortunately, not been resolved because it's very much still happening.

Some will still load, some will load better or more of them will load when refreshed but the problem persists regardless of account or icon. They don't load in comments, the browsing tool, or on the viewing pages.

I had the login page bookmarked, but I keep receiving a 503 Bad Gateway error. Now I have to google to get to the login, and it appears to be the exact same link, so not sure what's going on. It's been going on for a couple of days now.

Sorry to hear that! If clearing your browser cache doesn't fix these problems, try rebooting your network access point?

That sounds like a JS loading issue - see if either restarting the browser or clearing the browser cache fixes it?

That's definitely weird, and I don't know what else to suggest - but I don't think it's a widespread issue. Sometimes individual messages can cause the inbox to misbehave when they're displayed, depending on how the content is formatted.

If it persists, try opening a support request so someone else can take a look!

Huh; upon further experimentation (the functions work just fine on another page), that seems to be precisely the problem.

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it here but I did see a support request so you may already know that polls aren't working properly? I can post a poll, but it won't show correctly and when you try to "answer" it just reloads the poll as if you never voted.
