Site issue, we were down for a little bit

Hey folks --

If you were online a bit ago, you might have seen that Dreamwidth wasn't working. Sorry about that! We're back to normal now and I think the problem shouldn't recur.

For technical details: one of our databases was undergoing some maintenance, it looks like. This normally is an invisible operation, but for some reason the failover to the replica didn't go smoothly and we had both databases offline for about 20 minutes.

Once the maintenance was complete and the primary instance came back online, the replica was able to reconnect and we were back up and running.

Normally these events are transparent to y'all, so I'm not sure precisely why this one wasn't. Anyway, the maintenance is done, so I don't anticipate further issues. And again, apologies for the interruption.

you linked to the offsite status tweet, and i compose my posts in a text editor, so nothing was lost.

Thanks for getting right on it and for letting us know both about the error and about the reasons, rather than hoping we wouldn't notice like everybody else seems to :-)

Thank you for letting us know. I truly love how caring the staff of Dreamwidth is. This is why it's a pleasure to be here! As someone who is totally blind, I also wish to thank you for the wonderful screen reader accessibility of this site! It is a relief knowing how devoted you are to that, and that I won't log in one day and discover that the site has become unusable!

Those computers crunching numbers for the cancer curing equation runners. Doing that money thing. In Easter Oregon, they get power cheap from the camps where we burn the aborted babies. Each one can light a house for 20 years. Bastards. Well, could be low on fuel.
