Nginx has been banished!

Hey all,

Sorry for the 'Welcome to nginx!' issues we've been seeing for a bit now. It was a server configuration issue that hit us when a webserver rebooted.

Basically when the machine rebooted, nginx (software that can act as a web server) started up and then when Apache (the software Dreamwidth code uses for a web server) tried to start, it failed because nginx had already started and registered on the ports (the way web server software gets your requests).

Again, sorry for the site issues. Everything should be back to happy-times now, so let us know if you see any issues!

Хороший, годный полностью гэбэшный Ростелеком, филиал СПб, не блокирует.

Thanks for your info, I believed the problem was caused by a sudden outflux of Russian users from the Livejournal. We'll remember it as The Great Exodus.

Apparently LJ has recently moved all their servers to Russia and are deleting accounts.

Спасибо, Марк! Некоторые непонятки возникали из-за моих собственных ошибок. Стараюсь сам привыкнуть и освоиться.

All over the world. Europe, Middle East, Africa. They've created a ban list of users Russian government doesn't like and disabled the access to those accounts for the last couple days. Today or late yesterday the ban has been lifted, but the privacy concerns and ability to read "anything that you want" still remains a big concern.

What is kind of funny is, that as they point out in the comments dreamwidth.org is being actively blocked by some of the Russian ISPs as well. It sort of breaks up the community Russian immigrants from outside of Russia play here, Russians inside Russia play there.

Many people are concern, that it might overload your servers. If you make some sort of public announcement of what might help to prevent that, i.e. money infusions etc. it might help to alleviate some of those fears.

I was still seeing them so have cleared my cache and history and basically reintroduced myself to Dreamwidth, so hope that works...Thought I was virused.

Hello Mark!

Just in case you guys are curious what's the stampede with new registrations, LJ has just moved its servers from California to Russia and blocked a lot of journals along the move. So it's just another wave of refugees :)
