Code push!

We are planning to do a code push around 35 hours from now, at 8pm Pacific time on Saturday.

Here's a partial list of changes that will go live with this push, apart from the usual minor tweaks and bugfixes:

  • Markdown formatting support for crossposted entries.

  • Embedded content support for Google ngrams, Google calendar, vid.me, and codepen.io.

  • Additional space on the user profile page to list your DeviantArt username.

  • Improved support for browsing the site with HTTPS (fewer mixed content warnings).

  • The legacy mobile reading page has been updated to support filter selection.

  • The suggestions generator has been updated to use Github Issues.

  • Dreamwidth-based sites will now be able to disable anonymous support requests.

We'll update again to let you know when the code push is in progress!

Are you sure? 8 pm on Saturday is more than 17 hours away. In fact it's more than 24 hours. Did somebody slip an am or pm or time zone or something?

...And will this fix the ludicrously tiny text that I'm having so many issues with?

I was told there was a workaround for this, but it seems to have been taken down from anywhere I could find it- and it would be nice if we didn't need a workaround to begin with!

Nah, that's on my laptop for Firefox. Incredibly tiny text for everything on my Plurk tab, and I thought the same problem applied to Chrome but I just doublechecked and it's looking perfectly normal-sized there now.

I'd rather use Plurk on Firefox, but at least I have a viable alternate option than just 'Use the mobile site' as I have been.

I'm not sure what you mean by "everything on your Plurk tab" -- what page is it that's displaying small text for you?

My timeline, to be specific. Should I just try taking a screenshot and linking it here, to give a clearer picture?

...Okay, I'm a right fool and need to stop talking, because my problem is entirely different and something that you aren't supposed to be helping me with. I deeply apologize for wasting your time, and hope you have a good rest of the day.

Heh. I suspected that might be the case from the words you were using, but I wasn't 100% sure and I know people sometimes call their reading page their timeline! But yeah, that sounds like something you should talk to Plurk about. :)

So I have a question...

Does Dreamwidth have a particular stance regarding accounts made years ago, that have never verified their emails? These seem fairly common, and I've been wondering if anything will be done for those or if they'll always remain like that.

Generally speaking, once an account is registered, it belongs to the person who registered it until and unless they choose to delete it, whether the email address on the account was confirmed or not.

Thank you for your reply, Denise. I'd been curious for a while, since some other sites consider email verification the final step in account creation, but it didn't seem safe to assume that was uniform across all sites/services.

Yeah, you can still use your account with an unconfirmed email address (you just don't get emailed notification of comments) so we consider the account active even if the address isn't confirmed.

~waves~ Just a general thank-you for the maintenance - and very existence - of DW. When the zombies and sleepers awake from their trance and realise that being assimilated by the ZuckerBorg Collective and its kind is less wonderful than it once seemed, blogging will Be A Thing again. I hope. I shall keep maintaining my paid accounts here (of which this one isn't, heh) and hope for the future :-)

Well done, everyone. \o/

Thanks for all you do and for keeping us informed.

Thanks again, for keeping DW accessible for text browsers like lynx and w3m.

So far so good on my end. I notice that the support emails are worded just a bit differently, but that's nothing big at all. I still like them. Thank you Dw staff and volunteers for keeping it real!
