Code update

Just did a code push. The big thing in this push is the new icons you'll see on the site. Some tweaks and fixes to S2 layouts. And a lot of work on the payment system, which still is disabled, so you can't see that yet.

The issues with the crossposter are still outstanding, so if it's broken for you, it's still broken. We'll be working on it a lot this weekend.

Also, the issues with the importer are mostly resolved. There are only two outstanding issues -- the use of the mass privacy tool causing problems with some imports and importing from multiple accounts on one service -- but otherwise, the importer should be stable. If you've been holding off on importing your journal, I'd highly recommend you get it done before the Open Beta rush hits and the wait time becomes days!

As always, please let me know if you run into problems!

Edited: For more information on the S2 change I referred to in comments, please see this informational post in [site community profile] dw_styles. Thanks!

I suppose this explains why the posters' names disappeared off all the posts in my reading list just now. :)

I'm using a customized S1 style, I think. (I, er, followed the copy-and-paste instructions on a tutorial without understanding it entirely.)

[personal profile] quiara 2009-04-24 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried fixing it, but I just attempted a simple find-and-replace (of all instances of "friends" with "read") and .... it didn't work. It registered errors when it compiled and, um, I have no idea what they mean. ^_^

I think I'll just switch to another layout for now till the regular Core 2 stuff comes in or until [staff profile] mark has time to poke at the process and put it in layman's terms. ^_^

Ditto -- find and replace gave me error messages.

ETA: okay, some fumbling around indicates that you can't just find-and-replace "friends" to "read", or it borks things; it's $p.view == "friends" (and $p.view != "friends") that needs to change to $p.view == "read", etc..

ETA2: http://dw-styles.dreamwidth.org/5062.html

So okay, I could have saved myself the flailing around if I'd just waited five minutes, but I'm smug that I managed to find the right answer by means of a cunning strategy of randomly changing shit to see what happens.

[personal profile] montanaharper 2009-04-24 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
First, I always recommend copying your existing layout to a text document and saving it, in case something goes horribly wrong. *g*

After the search and replace, once you get errors in the compiling process, you can scroll down to the bottom of the list of errors (in the lower frame) and find out which line it didn't like. The bad line of code will be in italics. Then you can search for that text in the upper frame, manually replace read with friends for that instance, and compile it again.

Rinse and repeat as many times as is necessary, until you get a clean compile.

I just did it for a friend's journal (I keep her styles up-to-date) and it took a few minutes but wasn't too bad in Mixit.

Yeah, I'm kind of a n00b for anything more complicated, style-wise, than simple CSS, but I do know to back my stuff up before I monkey with it. ^_^ Despite my not knowing my way around the layouts very well, I do habitually build/take apart computers and keep excellent backup. I just didn't see a reason to restore without first figuring out the fix for certain, rather than proceeding to re-try the thing-that-made-sense-to-me if it didn't, in fact, make sense. ^_^

I didn't mean for that to sound like a dig or anything. O.O I was just trying to go through steps in order, and that's the one thing I always forget when I'm tinkering with my layout, and then end up kicking myself about later.

Everything I know about layouts (which isn't a lot, honestly), I've learned by poking at existing code, changing things and watching how it breaks, and trying to brute-force it into doing what I want; I'm sorry if I came across sounding like I thought I was some kind of layout guru. *g*

Importer for merging an IJ account & an LJ account still loses comments from IJ:
I tried to use the importer for getting the comments on my IJ account transferred to here as well (transferred my LJ account a couple of days ago). Sadly, it didn't work.
The importer duplicated what I cross-posted between IJ and DW, but the comments on IJ posts (duplicated or not) are not showing up. I opened specifically posts I knew had comments on IJ to see if the comments were "hidden" as has been mentioned at an earlier update, but I could find nothing.
I'm sorry, if I misunderstood importing from two different services to be resolved. Is it still in planning?

... does this explain why communities on my reading page don't have anything to say they're communities anymore? It stopped saying "posted by [user] in [comm]", now they look just like regular journals.

I'm using the standard white theme, haven't made any adjustments to it. (Though i did drop in the snippet of code that makes comment pages show in the site scheme.)

Yeah, I'm having the same problem, it's very confusing. The only place I can see something is a community now is the page summary. Though I'm using an imported layout. But I looked at other people's reading lists in layouts native ot the site and community names were missing there too. So it seems a wider effect.

The icons are pretty though.

Any way of importing communities yet? [personal profile] miss_s_b has been using [livejournal.com profile] theyorkshergob as her public journal for ages, but wants to put everything back in one place on DW, it'd be nice to either import the comm here as a comm or import the comm into her journal.

Importing communities is very, very difficult, because there's no way to allow the original poster to still retain control of the information (as OpenID users can't post to communities or manage community entries).

We do have plans to make it so that single-poster communities can be imported in the future, once we have the "claim your OpenID account" set up so that we can verify that the DW user importing the community is also the LJ/IJ/whateverJ user who posted all the entries, but that's an enhancement for down the road.
matgb: Artwork of 19th century upper class anarchist, text: MatGB (Default)

[personal profile] matgb 2009-04-24 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
That makes sense on many levels. I guess it'll be possible to cheat that with things like Wordpress imports when that goes live, import a comm to WP then export here, but that'll lose poster details across the board.

Danke, it's a one-person-only comm, so that should go OK.

[staff profile] denise 2009-04-24 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
No, unfortunately if you've used the mass privacy tool, your import will still fail. This is a bug that we're working on. (It has to do with how the mass privacy tool affects the timestamp of the entries, which then affects how things get provided in the data feed.)

We have a California king snake; she ran away (well, the kids let her out) last year, but she came back. Which was kind of a pleasant surprise (though it was winter time, and the house is a LOT warmer than the outside). There she was, in the stairwell, helloooo snake!

She was a gift from a herpetologist I used to work with -- she was a byblow from a hybridization experiment, so she's recessive for a lot of interesting things but predominantly looks almost exactly like this bog-standard king snake here.

Her name is Spot.

I would normally think this is a stylesheet issue, but I'm seeing the issue across the board: S1 pages, transmogrified pages, and site scheme pages.

The userhead icons are not aligned with the bottom of the text, which I'm pretty sure they were before. The change struck me immediately when we flipped icons. I can't for the life of me figure out what they're aligned with actually. In the navbar they seem to have the top of the icon aligned with the vertical middle of the line, and in other parts of the text it seems if perhaps the top is aligned with the top of the line.

[personal profile] flick 2009-04-24 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)

Nope, scratch that, at very high zoom it is centred. It moves as the text size changes. Hmmm.

I hadn't thought about the likely rush on journal imports after April 30. Okay: after reading this post, I girded my loins and clicked all the little ticky-boxes and told the import to begin!

(And -- this is so cool! -- seven years of livejournal posts seem to have ported themselves over, and I did some clicking around at random and it looks like the ones which were filtered are now locked, which is great -- I'll recreate the filters at some point.
