The problems expanding comments just means that there was a timeout -- could be your internet connection, could've been a problem with the site. We'll keep an eye on it.
Clearing the cache didn't fix anything; it only goes away when New JS on Journals is turned off or I'm on a page where the old styling is there even with the beta on, like on profile pages - although even with all beta features off, hovering over my default on the site's home page still brings up the borked menu. I tried it on different browsers (Chrome, FF, IE) and got the same result even after clearing the cache on each.
I didn't notice anything strange with the menus before this, nope... and now that I'm looking, having beta features on messes with reply boxes too! The icon link and top margin as seen in beta vs non-beta. Don't do a lot of commenting so I might just not have noticed any differences with the reply boxes until now. It could be unrelated to the code push. But the menus were working fine until today.
fwiw, I'm getting the same weird contextual hover menu - the links are all there, but the styling's off.
The weird header behavior on expand is something I've spotted a few times with the new comment pages but haven't been able to figure out how to reproduce - I think it may be something with swapping from the old comment page to the new without actually fully reloading the page (ie, logging in or swapping accounts and then expanding comments).
Well at least it's not just me. With the expanding issue, I had just brought my computer out of hibernate when that happened iirc and the browser had been left open as it slept, so the issue could have been triggered by that ("You were idle/reset so you were really logged out even if it looked like you weren't.") but idk man; any coding past basic CSS eludes my understanding.
I'm going to investigate the comment thing further and see if I can figure out how to reproduce it. Mostly because if it's an issue with just the new comment pages, it needs fixing on my part *g*
