code push shortly

We will be doing a code push here in a little bit. I'm just wrapping up one or two things before then, so we'll be a little later than our scheduled time, but hopefully not too much so.

When the code is pushed, I will update this entry.

Edit: Code version 0.6.0 has been pushed. Please comment here if you see anything broken, thanks!

In case anyone's coming to report this one: There's an identified problem with crossposted entries, where if you crosspost to a remote site, the crossposted entry will be posted as Private even if your entry on DW is public/locked. (There also seems to be a side problem with the date and time on the crossposted entry.) Mark's investigating and fixing now.

Okay, thanks for letting us know! I look forward to the code tour and/or explanation of what was updated. ^.^

It's been fixed! And the code tour from last week is half of what went live today (the other half will come shortly). :)

Hi,
I'm not sure if these are intended feature or not, but the http://www.dreamwidth.org/update no longer offers a preview of the post, only a spellcheck, so it's no longer possible to check if the post looks right before setting it "live". In addition, I miss it that the icon chosen to go with the post, is no longer displayed on the update page. I'd really love to have these two features back, if possible. They made posting a lot easier for me.
In case it is important: my site scheme is tropospherical purple.

Hey akk,

The update page isn't my development area, but I sometimes help in Support. I quickly double-checked whether the changes you reported missing were also gone for me, but I still have them. I checked Celerity, Tropo Red, and Tropo Purple.

Could you let Mark know what browser you're using and what your operating system is?

Of course. :)
Windows Vista Home Premium (fully updated)
Firefox 3.5.7 mit Adblock plus (deactivated on DW) and NoScript (all DW allowed); I checked it with both Addons deactivated & got no change.

Before the last codepush everything worked nicely - the page itself was also more compact, I didn't have to scroll more than a 1/4 screen on "update" to fill everything in. Now it's about 2 screens to get to all entry fields, but I considered that part of the changed layout and probably due to the added functionality.

I can still set an icon by chosing the file in the dropdown box (by tags), but the icon is not shown as a picture. And while I get the "preview" option here in the reply field, I don't get it on the update page for new posts.

Edit: I just noticed a probably related thing: in the reply field for answering to an entry or comment, the option "quote" for marked text is also gone. Instead I get the same four radio buttons list (two of which are with big fill-in fields and a ticky box) for answering anonymous, with OpenID, with the account I'm logged in with (prechecked), or a different account.

It looks distinctly like either JS is disabled, or JS is not working. (All the missing elements you mentioned are added by JS )

Are there any error messages in the error console?

Hi,

I changed nothing in the settings and it worked when I posted something short before the codepush. Obviously, I didn't check the error console then, so I don't know if it had errors before the codepush. Now it shows these six (separated by free line):

I don't know enough of js and css to say if they are related. But js is enabled, blocking addons are disabled on DW, and noscript had no update since my last all-okay-post, so I don't think there's a change "behind the scenes". I truly hope we can resolve this. :)

Hi,
Given [personal profile] zvi's assumption that it's js related, I've created a new firefox profile, which solved the listed problems of disappearing icon, button lists, and no quote function. Apparently, something in my browser's profile had gone corrupt in time with the codepush.
I'm sorry for the trouble I've caused.
Thank you all for your patience. :)

No worries, I'm glad it was quickly resolved! The timing was just so strangely coincidental...

If you ever run into any other problems, especially around code push, please always feel welcome to ask :-)
