Code push shortly
Olá de Lisboa! (I'm in Lisbon right now for work...)
Thank you everybody who has tested on canary - I'm about to push the code up to stable. I know that not everything has been tested and there's a lot in this deploy, so I expect some things to break or be weird. We have ported a lot more of the "older" pages to the newer formats, so there will be some UI changes in a few places, but it shouldn't be anything too major.
Watch for: One thing I know will require tuning, we now have added rate limits (which basically allows us to control how rapidly DW pages are loaded.) This is a protection mostly designed against bots, but any time in my career I've rolled out new rate limits, I've learned someone is hitting them and they have to be tuned. So if you see them, please let me know!
Anyway please do comment and I'll work to fix things today. We also have a rollback ready in case we need to (and I'll be honest, I expect we may need to... we really should do more frequent deploys.)
Known Issues
- Fixed: Search has gone walkabout.
- Fixed: Some UI weirdness with Manage Tags.
- Fixed: Login redirects are not working.
- Fixed: Login page sometimes returning 'invalid form submission.'
- Fixed: Rename keywords checkbox on icons page also gone walkabout.
- Fixed: Uploading large icon files erroring / not going to the image editor.
As always, thank you for your patience and supporting our scrappy little service!

Is it still giving any bad gateways? I am not surprised if that briefly happened during the deploy.

My usual experience when my login expires is that what I'm doing is clicking refresh to see if there are any new messages in my feed, and then it shows me "you are reading nosrednayduj's feed" including the little login dialog at the upper left.
I can reproduce this by being logged out and entering https://www.dreamwidth.org/inbox/ which then redirects to https://www.dreamwidth.org/?returnto=/inbox/ . I didn't notice the little login button in the upper right (which I just noticed when reproducing it), because I'm used to seeing the place in the upper left when I'm in my reading page.
I am using the web interface with Vivaldi.

Ah! Yeah not redirecting the login correctly is a bug, fixing it - thank you!

Thanks much for all your hard work!! It's always deeply appreciated.
Just to add a data point: This morning, while my session was able to see my inbox and the dreamwidth domain, whenever I tried to visit my own page or reading page, it would throw an error after what looked like a consistent redirect loop. Firefox just presented this error as "There's something wrong, try again later" without too much information. If I tried to access those pages on a logged-out browser, no issues at all.
Logging out and back in again seems to have solved it. But it was strange in the moment, because I could still see most everything I would if I were logged in (inbox, configuration page, etc.). For some reason it was only the pages associated with a domain that wasn't just www.dreamwidth.org that threw problems for me.

This can happen if you hit a page at exactly the wrong time during a deploy: if it's still happening, clear your browser cache and try again!

I see the "Work as" dropdown on the Manage Tags page stretches across the entire page.

Thank you! That whole page is ugly and terrible, but that dropdown is beyond the pale. I'll fix it!

at least for me.

What is the message counter? I'm not sure what that means.

Happy to take a recommendation if you have one! I had some at a tasca last night, while listening to some fado - but it was whatever they had and I don't know what's good.

The files appear to attach, I add a keyword, when I hit "proceed" I get this:
> Couldn't parse upload: No data from client. Possibly a refresh?
I tried with the same icon I uploaded successfully about 12 hours ago and it still didn't work, same error, so assuming something changed between then and now.

Those errors can happen during a code push if you hit the exact wrong moment in loading the site! Can you clear your browser cache and try again to see if it works now?

Do you mean the box you get when you hit "inspect image" (or whatever it's called in your browser)? That's rendered locally, so any delay is because your browser is struggling to render it, possibly because of a browser extension: try it again with extensions disabled and see if that fixes it. If it does, you can use the bisect technique: re-enable half your extensions, if the problem starts up again it's one of those and if not it's one of the other half, then disable everything again and just enable half of the half that had the problem, so on and so forth until you narrow it down to the one that's the issue. And if that's not what you mean, can you describe what you mean by the "image properties" box and how you're triggering it?

Replicated with "dive in" bringing up a lot of dive, dove, and diving with no in following them, "climb over" excluding over. But "big cat" was all "[big/bigger/biggest] [cat/cats]," and "blue wings" always turned up "blue [wing/wings/winged]," so it may be related to prepositions, word frequency, or such perhaps.
Thank you for all your work on this site!

Thank you for the thorough report - this is "intentional" but I am open to hearing feedback on it. We were creating a search index on every word, including words like "the" or "and" or "in", and it turns out those words are very common (ha)... so our search index was getting quite large.
Removing these words makes it cheaper and faster, and I was betting that 98% of the time they're not super useful for search. But if it turns out I'm wrong and everybody is using them, I can reindex to include them.

Any news on how to fix this or when it will be fixed?

Aw, thanks. Love to hear that. :)

I can never find a link anywhere on site to go to the page that reverts paid time back into points, is that intentionally mysterious?
On the new icon management page, there's no space between "Description:" and the box to fill in the description, and the : is squished into it. Checked on Firefox and Chrome. (I am also hoping for the return of the replace keywords ticky, but I see that's been addressed, thank you!)
Is it intentional that everything is in one column on the icon manage page? I feel like in the past the icons were next to the upload control box, is this the new design or my browser settings?
Thanks for all your work as always! Hope you're enjoying Portugal even if it's for work.
