We got a LOT of advantages and benefits by using the open-source LJ code as our base when we started the DW project (to begin with, it shaved about two years or so off our development time, but there were a LOT more) but I will confess, now that the code is now nearly old enough to legally drink alcohol in the US (and is old enough to vote!) I sometimes regret that decision, lol. (Not enough to change it, because it would be even worse by now to start from scratch, but occasionally I want to boot up the time machine and go shake 2008!me by the shoulders and yell "LOOK AT YOUR LIFE. LOOK AT YOUR CHOICES.") Mark and I have literally been working on this codebase in some form or another longer than some of our users have been ALIVE.
