(no subject)

Some people are reporting having trouble reaching the site, especially from the UK/EU. Unfortunately, after looking into it, it seems to be an internet routing problem and not something we can fix on our end. Hang tight; our hosting service is pretty good at working around those sorts of problems pretty quickly.

I talked with my ISP, it appears DW has blocked my IP address. I'm also from the US.

We do block IPs sometimes, but only when they're hitting us at a volume that residential customers generally can't hit and we haven't added any new blocks recently. You're probably also being affected by the routing issue being referenced here; it's not only UK/EU ISPs that are having the problem. Hang tight! Using a proxy might also help in the meantime -- when using a proxy, your traffic will take a different route.

I'm getting people inside the states that can't load the website, either. California, New York, Kansas, and Florida.

Yeah, the issue isn't limited to the UK/EU, I just called those out specifically because it seems most prevalent there. Anybody on the internet can have problems if their ISP is using bad routing information. It's not anything we can fix ourselves; hang tight.

I got the following message from an e-cigarette forum that I frequent:

Vapor Talk Members and Customers in the US may be experiencing outages Tuesday August 12th, 2014 as part of a widespread issue impacting major network providers including Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner, and Verizon. Michigan-based Nexcess is experiencing issues as part of the major network outage. Winnipeg-based web host New Winnipeg is also reporting some problems. These particular networks are major pipelines that provide internet service to customers in the United States. We suspect these outages will likely be resolved by this evening.

This might be the cause for some people not being able to access DW in the US?

It seems to be a limit on some of the ISP-level routers that handle IPv4 traffic.

Presumably the workaround is to use IPv6 instead. To do this, you'll have to get hour ISP to connect you differently.

Does Dreamwidth operate on IPv6? If not, this won't help.
