Code updates, importer fixes

We've been pushing some code this weekend, if you weren't aware. There's a lot of stuff going on. But hopefully you will be running into fewer bugs now! There are still some outstanding patches for the crossposter that aren't in yet, so hang tight on that.

We have fixed (hopefully! needs testing!) the importer for people who have used a mass privacy editor on their journals. We've also fixed (again, needs testing) the ability to import entries and comments from multiple sources. (I.e., from both of your IJs, all six of your LJs, and the partridge in yonder pear tree.)

So in short: try out the importer! If you have problems, open a support request and I will dig into it.

...

In actual maintenance announcements, I will be performing some downtime-required maintenance on the site sometime today. I'm not going to put a time on this notice, since I'm not sure when it will happen. (I have some other things to finish first and it's a bit hectic around here.)

This is really minor, but the colors picked for my style are being somewhat wonky... I'm using a personally modified version of Transmogrified, and right now the custom entry border, entry title, and entry title background aren't behaving even though the colors were specified in the wizard.

Also, the DW main site keeps switching between red and purple (which I have selected).

Nothing I am really concerned about, but reporting for the record.

So far it's importing my entries with no errors... but I do have 8 years worth importing so it's still going. Where before I did get an error pretty quickly.

[UPDATE] Ok got some double posts since I cross posted from DW to LJ since the 17th. It imported those cross posts too. But other than that did well, took about 3 minutes for over 2000 entries and only 1 UTF error. Comments imported ok too (as openID, pretty neat).

Thanks for all your hard work! We appreciate it ^_^

Me too, with the red & purple. I heard something about this possibly being done by cookies.

Mark, to you and denise I have to say "thank you". I was worried and very saddened when things started going down hill for LJ, I moved most of my private stuff to IJ to get it away from Russia, and I've moved here now. Of the group, I like this place much better.

I will be doing what I can to ensure your success with this venture. I'm telling all my friends too.

Hey, you fixed the thing that was bugging me before I made the time to see if it were already a reported bug! *high-fives the collective you*

I just set up my import, and it's in progress - it got all my entries in no time, including those changed with the mass security tool. So did everything else apart from the comments, which are queued. (ETA: Comments imported smoothly as well.) However, I have one message in my inbox which reads: "A status update about your import. Unknown status update." Any idea what that might mean?

Great! I have now merged four journals (two from LJ and two from IJ) into one. Before, I only got entries from one of the IJ journals to come through, though the tags and icons came through from all four.

Excellent. Oh, and I have the same "status update" messages that trobadora mentioned.

Just tried out the new interface for the importer (nice!), but it still won't grab those four icons. I know you are working on hundreds of other bugs right now, but I thought I'd mention it -- I try again every time you post that you've worked on the importer.

Crossposting to Inksome doesn't seem to work for me, for some reason.

I used the importer (and I'd been waiting because of having modified all my LJ entries using the privacy tool) and it appears to have been a success. Thanks!

I'm having the same issue - my default is not importing, nor are the new icons I've uploaded since I got a DW account (it says I don't have enough space, even though the total # of icons is 121 and I set my account type to "premium paid" for beta). I know I mentioned this in the news post, so if you already logged the bug from there, ignore me here!

Hey, me too. You reminded me that three icons failed to come through from IJ when I first tried, so I looked again and they still didn't import.

Importing of content from two journal was really quick (both are small journals), but a couple of things have come up:

1) first import I didn't say to import custom security groups (forgot that the journal had a filter) but the importer says it imported them. (Not sure if that's intentional or not.)
2) default icon is changed to that of the imported journal.
3) importing a journal defaulted as explicit adult content to an all ages journal seems to result in imported 'journal default' posts being defaulted to all ages rather than becoming labelled adult only. (I haven't checked all the posts yet, but the ones I've come across that were 'journal default' rather than specifically labelled 14+ or 18+ are that way.)
4) X-posted posts (between DW and LJ) are duplicated upon import (possibly because the LJ version had to be edited for an lj-cut)
5) weirdness with the icon on the profile page (not importer related). An as yet unused icon is being show where my default icon should be.
6) something I just realised but don't know if that's something anything can be done about or if it's even desirable to do so. Posts with the 'default' icon upon being imported show the 'default icon' for its new home rather than maintaining the default icon it used to have. Since my journals have individual icon sets, the posts are losing some of their original 'identity' upon import.

All the content and comments look like they've come across though, which is wonderful. Thank you!

[ETA: Don't know if there's a delay in updating for it, but the archive calendar post counts don't seem to be updating after posts are deleted.]

Not importer-related, but the first of my icons is displayed in the profile, although I don't have any default pic set. Before today it was as it should be.
The popup context menu shows up correctly, though, with the red "d".

I hope this isn't the wrong place to tell this.

I deleted all my icons and then re-imported them from LJ, and they all imported correctly this time. Thanks!

Your poor four icons!

We improved some of the error messages around icon failures -- did you get any specific error messages in your inbox?

I did, but I trashed it, sorry! ::facepalm:: I will try the import again and report back if there are special error messages.

Ah, now I remember why I trashed it.

Here's the error message in full:

"A status update about your import.
Unknown status update."

Is that remotely helpful?

Thank you so much! This totally fixed the problems I was having - my IJ entries had imported, but no comments (I had already imported my LJ). Reimporting put the comments on, which is exactly what I had hoped for! PARTY AT MY PLACE \o/

Oh, thank you! I figured you must have fixed the importer because I imported both my LJ and IJ yesterday but the IJ comments were just refusing to come over, no matter how many times I tried, then I tried again today and all IJ comments arrived just fine! Thank you. :-)
