Code updates, importer fixes

We've been pushing some code this weekend, if you weren't aware. There's a lot of stuff going on. But hopefully you will be running into fewer bugs now! There are still some outstanding patches for the crossposter that aren't in yet, so hang tight on that.

We have fixed (hopefully! needs testing!) the importer for people who have used a mass privacy editor on their journals. We've also fixed (again, needs testing) the ability to import entries and comments from multiple sources. (I.e., from both of your IJs, all six of your LJs, and the partridge in yonder pear tree.)

So in short: try out the importer! If you have problems, open a support request and I will dig into it.

...

In actual maintenance announcements, I will be performing some downtime-required maintenance on the site sometime today. I'm not going to put a time on this notice, since I'm not sure when it will happen. (I have some other things to finish first and it's a bit hectic around here.)

This is kind of irrelevant, I'm just a little bit OCD, but the Dreamwidth icon that shows up on my tabs has little bits of white pixels on the edges of the spiral that show up if the tabs/address bar aren't white.

I totally recognize the lack of priority on something like that but I'd be happy to fix it if you like or if there isn't already someone who addresses the site icons.

Can you do me one more favor? Can you delete the icons on DW and try importing one more time? That'll settle whether or not it was the one bug or the other bug. *g*

We have a fix for that one, it just isn't committed yet!

first i want to say thanks for all of your guys' hard work. i have a few things that have been going wrong for me, they may be fine for others:

-the navigation strip disappeared from all views. i tried changing my settings, but it hasn't come back yet.

-lj cuts in dw posts don't show up as lj cuts when i crosspost to lj. i am using html editor as my default editor.

Clarification: should I delete all my icons, or just the ones that aren't coming over?

Ooh, I'll test the importer later. I'd been thinking I'd like to import all of my old LJs that were at any time heavily used, and there are five of those, two of which have been converted to private with the mass editor.

I have a question on the icon for feeds. In my most recent post I included the name of a DW feed, and the icon that came up is the little grey guy with what looks like a chain link on it. I was expecting to see the little orange feed symbol instead. Is the little guy with the chain link the correct icon?

I coded the name of the feed as 'user name="darthmojo_feed" site=dreamwidth.org'. Is there a different HTML I should be using? I tried to find it in the FAQ, but it isn't included in the DW specific HTML answer.

Thanks!

Not sure if this makes a difference, but you don't need the "site=dreamwidth.org" part.

That fixed it. Still, according to the FAQ, the code should work either way, so it's probably a bug.

Thank you for the suggestion!

There's a bug in Bugzilla about it, but no patch as of yet. Essentially the thing is that site="" is normally only used when you're referring to an external site, not dreamwidth.org. The bug here is that it doesn't treat site="dreamwidth.org" the same as if you didn't include that at all; it should ignore it if it's us.

I'm not entirely positive this is the right post for this, but c'est la vie. When posting to my journal I typically spell check first. While I was doing that this evening I got a very odd error message instead. There was no spell check and my post got completely deleted when I hit the back button. I wrote down the error message the second time it happened, after I rewrote the entry, if you need that. Thanks.

Hey -

For testing - can I get you to wipe all the entries from [personal profile] h2_test? Then I can test importing from multiple journals into one. Thanx! (If you need other info - I'm pingable on AIM at hghlnder2 or PM'able here! *g*

Not an importer problem, and if this should be directed somewhere else, please let me know, but something odd I noticed today --

I'm using a custom style built on core 1, and I'm not seeing the username display on any entries on my reading page, except posts to communities (there I see the poster's username but not the community name). This appears to be something that changed today -- is this a side effect of an update to the code, making my modified-from-LJ layout not quite functional anymore?

Ha, y'all are fantastic. :) I love how we're actually being listened to here.

Now, just a quick question: On my friends' page, it looks like all of the username/username icons have disappeared unless it's been posted to a community.

Is this a quirk of using the layout I am, or is it a bug? I don't know if I've seen it mentioned elsewhere.

Hm, having trouble with icons. I imported two journals without icons (they're old, the icons are old, I didn't want them) with no discernable trouble, but when I got to one I wanted to import the icons on, the first attempt imported just 3 (out of 10 including inactives), and later attempts (first without deleted the imported icons, the rest after doing so) haven't imported anything... ah, and the most recent attempt imported the same 3 active icons as the first attempt.

ETA: Having a little chat with that journal (which hadn't been touched since before adless free journals were given 6 userpics) made 6 of 10 active instead of 3 of 10, but the other 4 still won't import. (Also importing the icons sets the default to the default of the imported journal. Easily fixed, of course.) My inbox is mostly full of claims that everything was successful with the occasionaly useless 'unknown status update' message, and I imported another journal that only had 6 icons, all active, and that worked fine.

The error was about Storable something or other, right? I think I just checked in a fix to that.

Edit: where "checked in" means "submitted for code review". :)

Yes, I think. It started with magic number checking and went into storable strings failing. Which makes no sense to me. I did write down the entire error message if you need it.
