Code update

Just did another code update. Notably, this update fixed a number of things with the crossposter: UTF-8 posts (i.e. non-English-language posts) should work now, embedded videos should show up successfully on LJ, the button is now cross-browser, logged out users can use the update page again, etc. There were some other changes too, one or two minor fixes to the importer, and some other things.

As always, if you've got problems, we've got ears. Let us know what's up and we'll make sure it's got a bug filed and someone poking at it with sharp sticks. And sometimes dull sticks, because you really can't tell what a bug needs until someone goes in and starts poking.

when i try to import my journal (from LJ), i keep getting these notices:

Original post: http://izzybeth.livejournal.com/265111.html

* Failed to post: Client error: Invalid text encoding: The text entered is not a valid UTF-8 stream

it's just a few posts (thirty-odd), and they're quite old (from 2002 or so), but i thought i'd let you guys know since i have no idea if anyone's had a similar problem. thanks for all the amazing work you've done. :)

I have a post that absolutely refuses to crosspost to LJ, here.

The first couple of times I tried (doing small edits each time), I didn't even get a failed message; it just didn't go through.

Then I tried a new post and it failed, but gave me the failed notification. So I recreated the external account info and tried to crosspost the new post again and it worked.

But every time I try to make that first post crosspost it fails (and gives me a failed notification). I can't see anything strange in the post, no videos or images, nothing more complicated than a link to another entry.

Any ideas?

I have a cross-posting error, when I tried to edit my entry on InsaneJournal:

Client error: Invalid text encoding: Cannot display this post. Please see http://www.insanejournal.com/support/encodings.bml for more information.

I removed the degree symbol that I copied & pasted from wunderground.com: 91 °F -- after I took it out, everything was fine. (Firefox Mac 3.0.8, Mac OS X 4.11)

Okay, I can't input a table in my Bio.

I'm trying to use this code on my bio page:

the Bio page doesn't even show that it recognizes a table, much less cells and so on. It works perfectly on a test page on another site, but not here.

(( and apparently the tag < code > isn't working on here either. ))

Hooray for UTF8! Thank you! ASCII is not enough — even in English.

Hiya! I'm just a random user, but this caught my eye because I did something similar in my own profile both here and on LJ, and it worked (after much experimentation, since different attributes are ignored on each site). I'm not entirely sure why it's not working for you, but you may want to try converting the style attribute in your table tag into the old height and width attributes, since bios don't appear to recognize inline styling (among other attributes).

Hey, uh, I've got a weird one.

I use Semagic to post to LJ and wanted to use it to post here (it's just more convenient for me that way), and while Semagic logs into Dreamwidth just fine, it gives me an invalid password error when I try to post.

ETA: Never mind...it seems to have fixed itself. Weird.

Crossposting through Internet Explorer worked beautifully, this morning. Thank you so much for all of your hard work.

Crossposting is working perfectly for me to LJ, and importing worked a dream (with 193 icons) too. And all on IE6 (work machine, hence not uptoddate)

I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's a just me, but when I use the <lj site="livejournal.com" comm="communityname"> code (eg: [livejournal.com profile] spnfencentral) the image it calls up is broken, same for cross-site users.

The part of the crossposting mechanism that allows you to add another account doesn't work in Opera 9. When I click the 'add account' button, it just reloads the page.

Someone subscribed to me under their OpenID. I subscribed and allowed back. They created a DW account and deleted their OpenID. I unsubbed and unallowed the OpenID but it's still there on my circle list. It says "N/A" under both subscribe and allow on their side. I expected that listing to disappear since neither of us have subbed the other.

I've seen cross-posted entries with "cross posted from this entry leave a comment there" or something like at the bottom. This morning when I cross-posted, I didn't get that (or any confirmation on the cross-posting). I'm on a Mac using Firefox with noscript (enabled for DW and LJ).

I use ie6 at work, and the update page doesn't display properly. It's just all messed up. I can still update, but can't view the music/mood/location boxes.

There are LOTS of websites that don't work in this old browser, but I wanted to let you know. Thanks for all you're doing!

Hi, I imported my LJ to Dreamwidth about 10 days ago and also asked it to import the comments but the comments still haven't arrived. Should I just carry on being patient or is it a case that if it hasn't imported them by now, it won't be going to? Thanks!

Just wanted to give you folks a thumbs up. Everything is much appreciated!

ETA:
I just cross posted to LJ and IJ and a user name link (as done with the coding [user name="xxx" site="livejournal.com"] (replacing the [ ]) and the code never moved over for LJ or IJ. The user name was just plain text. Is this being worked on? Or should I have just done it as [user name="xxx"] and left it that way? (except as this person hasn't a DW account, it would have been incorrect)

Hi :) I had originally had an issue with the importer where my default icon did not import. I opened a support request, and was told that the issue had been fixed and my icon should be showing up. It hasn't yet. Do I need to re-import icons, or just upload the pic again?

Thanks for all the work on this - I'm really excited to see it coming together.

Here's another interesting one - while editing a cross-posted entry with "Edit entry" results in the entry being updated across various sites, editing the tags in "Edit tags" doesn't seem to.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had tried that first, and it still didn't see it. And since the entire thing is based on it seeing the table, it isn't pulling it at all. < sigh >

Just to make sure it doesn't get lost: cross-posting with boring old < lj-cut text="" > did not carry over the cut. This is for me and about ten other cross-posts. It may have been fixed in the most recent upgrade but I didn't see anything about it.
