Code Push Window

The code push scheduled for today will be starting shortly. There is little-to-no expected downtime. The patches being pushed this time around are on this code tour.

A note: any users who have enabled journal-styled icon pages will have that feature turned off as a result of one of the bug fixes. You can turn it back on right away, though! It's under Journal Icons Style on the Display tab in Settings.

EDIT: Some folks who are using certain Dreamwidth-native styles may have some odd display issues with the custom-styled icon pages. It's a bug! A fix is in the works, and will be live as soon as it's been tested. Should be fixed now! Comment if you continue to have trouble.

I feel stupid for asking, but where's the icon page? This is the first time I've heard of it o_O

The page where you can view all your icons (or someone else's) -- like, yours is http://meicdon13.dreamwidth.org/icons -- was previously only available in the site skin. We've been working for a while to make it possible to set it to your journal style, since a lot of people view their icons as part of their journal rather than as part of the information about their account and wanted to have it display the same way as the rest of their journal.

You can turn it on by going to http://www.dreamwidth.org/manage/settings/?cat=display and checking the new setting labelled "Journal Icons Style" (checking the box means your own icon page will show in your journal style to anybody viewing it who hasn't chosen a different view), or picking a setting for "Icons View Style" that will control how you view other people's icon pages.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I selects the option and then went to check it out.

It was perfectly in my layout style. And the stars aligned and dolphins jumped in sync out of the water while a parade went through Main Street, ending with a rousing and triumphant musical number.

It looks like the text encoding was somehow set wrong. Can you go to http://www.dreamwidth.org/editicons and change the comment text, or do you get an error?

I turned on the Journal Icons Style feature and it doesn't seem to be working. Does it only work with native DW layouts? I'm using an imported custom style.

Yes, it will only work with a DW-native layout, or a custom layout that has been written to be aware of the /icons page. If you want it to work with a custom layout, you'll need to edit the custom layout to include code for the icon page. (I think someone was planning on writing a basic overview on how to do that for dw_styles, but I'm not sure.)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! It doesn't look like that's been posted yet but my journal is due for a makeover, anyway. And there are lots of lovely new layouts that I've been meaning to take a look at :)

We strongly recommend that people use DW-native layouts whenever possible, anyway! We have more things under development like this, where they will only work if you use a style that was written for DW.

it might be just me? but the 'random' button in the icon section of the beta Create Entries page no longer does anything. ;_; 'browse' still works, though.

I don't often use the random journal button on the homepage, just every now and then when I'm bored. Today was one of those days and I've discovered that it wont take you to a random journal, just takes you back to the homepage (ie dreamwith.org in the address bar). Same with random communities. I don't know if this is your just-done code push or not, but it's not working.

I think I remember somebody else mentioning that not working a few days ago and it didn't quite register with me at the time -- that probably means the script that populates the random-user dataset isn't running properly. I'll pass that along; thank you!

Found some strange.
Crosspost links (to LJ, for example) are missed/not displayed everywhere. It is missed even in old records (not only in new ones). Also i don't see any crosspost links on my "reading page" in friend's posts (were often early).
Is it something with my settings, or?
