Adding a webserver

Hi all,

Dreamwidth is seeing some extra traffic today, so we're rolling out a new webserver to handle the extra load. We'll be paying close attention to the system load though and will be doing what we can to make sure everything is speedy and working.

Also, today I am joined by my infant son Oliver, who is helping me with the servers. Hello from Mark and Oliver!

Just to let you know (and I'm replying to everybody in the comments here who's made similar comments, so please please don't think it's personal!) -- we're asking that people not make negative comments about LJ in the comments to our official communities, since we just don't think it's right to be encouraging that in our official spaces, especially since we literally could not exist without LJ having existed first and many people already have a negative impression of evangelism by people who support DW. I know emotions are running high and everybody's feeling very stirred up right now, and we don't want to make things worse in our official spaces!

Yeah, I'm replying to everybody who made similar types of comments, just trying to head things off at the pass a little -- the comments themselves aren't so much of a problem as it can encourage people to start venting their frustrations with LJ here, in replies, and I'm trying to head things off at the pass a bit. I don't want the comments in official communities here to turn into a discussion of LJ's perceived shortcomings, since that can look really scuzzy for us to be enabling, if you know what I mean?

Well, all the comments I've seen have been one-line, light-hearted things which were made a couple of days ago, nobody has responded to and nobody has started a discussion from. In making a bigger deal out of them, I think it's causing the exact opposite of what you intended as I see other people have replied, now. :(

If I may be honest, if you have to broach it, a lighter response, such as, "Let's not bash the competition, now, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for LJ!" would have been less condescending.

I'm very sorry I offended you! I was trying to comment with the same (or very similar) things to everybody so that it didn't look as though I was singling anybody out or skipping over some comments that could possibly be interpreted as negative while replying to others, but I can see where it could be read as heavy-handed. It wasn't my intent; I've just been seeing a lot of LJ-bashing and I'm trying my best to head it off a bit.

As an apology, I can offer pictures of our kitten's fuzzy belly?

Very, very, very big kitten. He was 14 months old when we adopted him and he was still bigger than our other two, who are not exactly small.

We're pretty sure he's part moose.
